Sand Hollow September Bass Fishing – Good times with family!

Sand Hollow September bass fishing can be a blast! Any time I’m in St. George, I do my best to get out to Sand Hollow. Once again, it didn’t let me down on this trip. We wound up catching a decent amount of fish on some different lures I don’t usually throw much. Plus, the highlight of the trip was taking my wife out with me. She caught her first “all by myself bass.” She was really stoked. I actually heard her say, “This is actually fun! I don’t want to put my pole down. I just want to catch one more.” Sand hollow is an awesome place to have a good time catching fish with your family. Here is what we did and where we went for a fun evening of Sand Hollow September Bass!

Sand Hollow September Bass Fishing Conditions

The water temperature was 78 – 79 degrees. The wind was blowing lightly at about 7 – 10 mph. We took our time getting out on the water because it was a warm afternoon. The other factor playing into this trip was the water lever, which was abnormally low for the lake.  It changed the dynamics of where we fished. We caught all of our fish in 12 – 20 feet of water. We found a transition where it dropped off and set up shop at the 12 ft. range and fished in the 20. That’s where all the fish were stacked up. We fished from about 5:oo pm to 8:30 pm, until it got dark on us (and the bugs started eating my wife).

Sand Hollow September Bass Fishing Spots

Literally we only fished one spot that was worth mentioning. The fish were schooled up in one place, and we had a good time catching them. Here is a map showing where we caught all our fish. All you have to do is subscribe to the blog to view the map, and if you are already a subscriber you may have to zoom out to get a better idea where this spot is. Hopefully, this helps you.

Sand Hollow September Bass Fishing Baits

What was funny about this trip was the first thing I tied on worked the best! I tried a bunch of other baits, but hands down our first two rigs caught the most fish. Here is what we used and how we fished them to release the “Kraken” on those Bass!

Shaky Head

A shaky head rig was a solid bass catcher of us. I set up with a Strike King KVD Finesse Worm Bait (Green Pumpkin, 6.5-Inch). I put this on my wife’s pole, and she had twice as many hits as me. Plus, she caught just as many fish. This rig brought a stoke storm on those bass. Let it sink to the bottom and walk it back. She didn’t get hit unless it was sitting right on the bottom.

Swim Jig

I used a 3/8 oz blue gill swim jig. For the jig trailer, I had on a white Yamamoto Single Tail Grub Bait, Blue Pearl Silver Flake, 4-Inch. All my fish came while the bait was falling. I had a few bass crush it on the initial cast just falling to the bottom. I would let it fall to the bottom, then drastically pull it up about 5-7 feet and let it fall back down again. The bass couldn’t resist the falling- swimming action.

Sand Hollow September Bass Fishing Additional Thoughts

At this time of the year you could definitely tell the bass were schooling up. All our fish were caught in a 40 yard stretch of water. It can be tough fishing this time of year, but just keep moving until you find the fish.

It was fun to watch my wife start to enjoy bass fishing for the first time. All those blog post edits she’s helped with have taught her a few things; she’s found her “Kraken.” The shaky head is a perfect rig for your family to catch bass on. I know it works all year, and it worked great for my wife. She should have had more than me in the numbers of fish she caught, but she had a hard time hooking them. A little more practice, and she’ll be able to land them like Guido Hibdon.

When the trip was all said and done we wound up with about 10 bass in the boat. We should have had at least 20. We missed a lot of fish. I actually broke off my best bait after about my fourth bass. Then I tried to find something else to use, but nothing quite cut the mustard like that Blue Gill Swim Jig.

Now that the weather is nice, get out there this fall and release the “Kraken” on those Largemouth Bass!

As Always,

Stay Stoked
