Here are details of how to fish the Evergreen Shower Blows to catch more bass. This is a unique Japanese topwater bait. The Shower Blows lure will help you catch more fish when you know how to use it right, but this lure can be hard to come by. Tackle shops often run out because it is a fish catching machine. Reading the tips in this post, you’ll see how well the Evergreen Show Blow lure can work.
Fishing the Evergreen Shower Blows
The Evergreen Shower Blows is the perfect topwater for fishing up big bass from their deeper haunts. In a nutshell the Shower Blows is a spook style topwater lure with a unique design. The Evergreen Shower Blows creates a natural profile with a spitting lip, so you can create an erratic presentation. In addition, the Evergreen Shower Blows has a heavier weighted butt, so you can easily get it to slash back and forth on top.
Even though the design and idea of this bait makes a ton of sense, it’s a hard bait to fish. After experimenting with this bait over several years, I’ve learned a lot of hints that have helped me slay big ones. The right fishing equipment, retrieving the bait properly, and knowing when to use an Evergreen Shower Blows will make a difference for you. Let’s dive into how to fish an Evergreen Shower Blows so you can put more bass in the boat.
Fishing Equipment
The right equipment will help you have better success when fishing the Evergreen Shower Blows. The Shower Blows works best with a medium heavy action rod with a fast tip. A medium heavy action rod will give you better control to work the bait properly. Add on a higher speed ratio reel to make an even bigger difference for quickly picking up slack line on the retrieve. Anything over a 7:1:1 gear ratio will do the trick. Lastly, make sure you have a long rod, over 7 feet, so you can bomb that baby out and get more leverage on your hook sets. A good rod and reel combination will make for more catches with the Shower Blows.
The type of line you use will make a big difference too on the Shower Blows. You will have more success with a braid to monofilament leader set up than straight fluorocarbon or straight braided line. Why? Because the Shower Blows is a bait that shines best with long casts. With straight fluorocarbon, you don’t get as good of a connection as you do with braid. Yet, the braid by itself is too visible and bass shy away from it in clear water. The Mono-filament line is important because it floats, which will give you the best action out of the lure. So if you want the Shower Blows to work for you, use the braid to mono-filament line solution with a double uni knot.

Optimal Retrieve
How you fish the Evergreen Shower Blows depends on how the bass are responding. This bait performs best with a slow, steady walk back and forth on the top of the water. One of the cool features of the Evergreen Shower Blows is lifelike feathered treble hooks. If you let this hook sit on top after a few slashes on the top, you’ll often get some bites. The best way to retrieve a Shower Blows goes like this: Cast the lure out and let it pause on the top until the ripples disappear. Vary the pace in your retrieve, observing what the bass tell you. It seems the bass like the Shower Blows best when it’s slashing erratically and pausing occasionally on the surface. Check out the video below for a better idea of how you can fish the Shower Blows.
When to use the Evergreen Shower Blows
Knowing when to use the Evergreen Shower Blows will help you put more fish in the boat. Here are some thoughts to consider. Seasonally, this bait will work best late spring through early fall. The Shower Blows is an erratic topwater and it tends to draw strikes when bass are more aggressive in the warmer water temperatures. The Shower Blows is ideal for when you encounter bass in shallow or clear water. The big profile and fast walking action of the lure will help you cover water faster, and help you find where fish are holding on your lake. Plus, with your line set up from above, the bass won’t be able to detect you near them.
The Shower Blows also works well in high fishing pressure situations. It’s not a bait the bass see a lot. It has a real, natural appeal to those bass to draw them up out of the deeper haunts. It’s a great imitation of a dying baby bass or a perch often found flitting around at the top of the water column. One of the best colors in clear water is baby bass or bluegill. These colors will straight up will get you chomped!

Shower Blows Topwater Additional Tips
As mentioned earlier, the Evergreen Shower Blows can be hard to find in tackle shops. I’ve only been able to find the baits online, and even those tend to run out fast. Ebay, Amazon, and Tackle Warehouse are good places to start if you want to try one of these baits out. Another thing you need to take note of with these lures is that the feathered trebles on the back can get torn up. Especially when you are catching a lot of fish. It’s always a good idea to have an extra feathered treble hook to replace the bad one while out on the water.
