Bandito Bug
A Bandito Bug is a great bait for Gunlock bass fishing. Use a natural color like green pumpkin, or bama bug for best results. There are a lot of crayfish in gunlock. The Bandito mimics a crayfish precisely, and has a high hook up ratio. One of the best ways to set this lure up is on a 1/8 oz shaky head. This light shaky head helps to not hang up in the rocks. A shaky head also imparts a sweet finesse presentation the bass in gunlock can’t resist.
Pepper Custom Jig
A pepper custom jig in green pumpkin is another great lure for catching bass on gunlock. Do the following things to your jig to appeal to more fish. First, trim the skirts back. Second, add a 3″ havoc pitboss as a trailer. Lastly, put a little bit of orange with a spike it pen on the tips of your pit boss claws. You can find all this illustrated in my jig fishing clear water article for a better idea of what to do. This set up slays here at Gunlock.
Rock Crawler Crankbait
The medium diving rock crawler crank bait is a great way to catch bass at gunlock. The best thing about a crank bait is it’s really easy to use. Simply, throw it out and wind it back. The key is to make sure your rock crawler is bumping the nose tip on the tops of the rocks. This creates some commotion the bass seem to love at gunlock. The best colors are the green back style baits that imitate both crayfish, and baby bluegill.
Gunlock Fishing Spots
Fall Fishing on Gunlock you always want to explore two main places on the lake. It’s not a very big lake, but the bass aren’t everywhere. The first place you should check is the main river inlet. There is a lot of flooded brush with current, and a lot of times the bass will stack up in there. The other spot is the big main lake points. There are only a few main points on the lake, and all of them tend to hold fish. Here’s a map of some of the places I like to go to find bass on gunlock.

Additional Gunlock Fishing Tips
One more thing you should know about gunlock fishing is the how the lake water levels fluctuate. Typically this lake has high water in the spring and overflows the spillway regularly. In the fall the water is usually extremely low from being drawn down on all summer long. In the desert it almost never rains, and so it just keeps getting lower and lower. Until the rains come to the mountains in the winter. In the fall this helps concentrate the fish, and makes them easier to catch. Keep this in mind when you are out doing some fall fishing.
